RedotPay's New US Licenses Are Lending Licenses

RedotPay says it has secured its first two US state lending licenses, in Idaho and Nebraska, with more than twenty further applications underway. The company frames it as regulatory groundwork for a future US launch rather than an availability change.

A lending license permits credit, not transfers

The distinction from August is the interesting part. A money transmitter license, which RedotPay announced obtaining for the first time on 20 August, covers moving customer money: transfers, remittances, holding balances on someone's behalf. A state lending license covers a different act entirely — extending credit to a borrower in that state.

Those are separate permissions because they are separate businesses. A prepaid card funded from a user's own stablecoin balance does not require anyone to lend. A card that advances money against collateral, or a credit line drawn from a deposited balance, does. RedotPay already lists Credit among its personal products outside the US, so the licenses it is collecting line up with the product it already runs, not with a stripped-down version of it.

Two states is a footprint, not a launch

US lending is licensed state by state, and two states is the start of that process rather than its result. Twenty-plus pending applications is the number that describes the actual ambition, and pending applications are not permissions.

Nothing here says when US users can sign up, on what terms, at what rates, or with which products. Rates and eligibility for a credit product are set at launch and are usually state-specific; none of that has been published.

Nothing changes outside the US yet

For anyone already using RedotPay outside the United States, this is background. For anyone in the US watching for RedotPay to arrive, the shape of what is being built is now clearer than the timing: the licensing path points at credit, and the count of states will be the thing that moves first.

The August money transmitter license covered the same distinction from the other side.
